I always like to play around with the “scoring mechanic” in these games (and the stats screen in general) and Book 6 is no exception! Instead of Attunement working like players have come to expect, we’re faced with Attachment: a scale of whether your choices are more in line with MC or Masami/Masashi.

Your goal is to seek a balance between the gruff ronin and the kind shugenja—danger and even Bad Ends await those who stray too far! Though for those wondering: the only Bad End checks are in Chapter 5 and Chapter 8, and even for those, you really have to make a conscious effort to get them!

Towards the end of the game, your balance between MC and Masa will convert into your Attunement score for Book 6. So if you want a high one, keep things balanced!

Never Too Late to Learn
At the start of the game, load in a character from Book 5.

Toast of Tardiness
In chapter 1, ask Toshie/Toshio how you’re supposed to study on an empty stomach.

What It Takes to Win
In chapter 2, tell the Shogi Club that you’ve lost interest in shogi because everyone cheats.

The Magic Word*
In chapter 3, type ‘magic’ when thinking about what makes Masami/Masashi so special.

The Mindful Miko
In chapter 3, mention the secret note you got to Toshie/Toshio.

Shinsengumi Showman
In chapter 4, the Shinsengumi showman’s name is Sadao Hamasaki.

The Toughest Sacrifice
In chapter 5, you’ve got to choose to…kill the cat. (Don’t worry too much about it, though!)

Attachment Issues
In chapter 5, you have to get a BAD END by having either too much or too little Attachment. You have to choose Joy (if high Attachment) or “Spare me the lecture…” (if low Attachment).

Shogi Veteran
In chapter 6, the row of pawns look like this: 歩歩歩歩歩歩歩歩歩.

Felines Fighting
In chapter 7, tell Hikiko to keep you out of her catfight.

Sometimes Losing
In chapter 7, make sure the last line of your haiku ISN’T 5 syllables. For example, “just how much was amiss” = 6 syllables.

Early Dismissal
In chapter 8, you have to get a BAD END by having either too much or too little Attachment.

Awkward Admirer
In chapter 9, remember that your admirer’s name is Chiharu.

A Lesson in Mysteries
In chapter 10, recall that the detail Toshie/Toshio mentioned was an expansion to the school.

A Penchant for Puzzles
In chapter 11, when Hitomi asks about the message, say that whoever wrote it likes riddles too much.

New Form*
In chapter 12, type ‘red panda’ when thinking about what form you’ve taken.

A Ninja’s Wisdom
In chapter 12, remember that Toshie/Toshio’s message was “The body and mind are two sides of the same coin…”

The Originator*
In chapter 12, type ‘shugenja’ when thinking about the man who lived inside the hut.

Fake Stories and Samurai
In chapter 13, tell yourself that the last thing you need is to get lost inside some stupid novel about a fake samurai. (Very meta!)

A Disturbing Detail
In chapter 13, the disturbing aspect of the chart is that Masami/Masashi and her/his friends are at the very bottom.

An Authentic Imposter
In chapter 14, when the Lunch Lady claims that you’re not Masami/Masashi, confess the truth (if you have <= 50% Attachment) or keep up the deception (if you have >= 50% Attachment).

Son of Morita
In chapter 16, remember that your third friend is named Fumihiro.

The Proper Approach
In chapter 16, when trying to convince the Kendo Club, an Impulsive ronin should use a direct approach while a Calculated ronin should use a cerebral approach.

Reincarnation Plan
In chapter 17, answer Fumihiro’s question with “He ‘retires’ by possessing the body of a young shugenja.”

Greed and Pride
In chapter 18, the two dancing puppets represent Shiroyama and Shatao.

Desperate Plans
In chapter 19, when deciding a course of action, choose (Hikiko rescues the Kendo Club, the squad frees the students, I attack the demon).

The Ultimate Balance
In chapter 19, you must have 50% (or very close to it) Attachment. This is where Attachment turns into Attunement.

Desire, Faith, and Love
In chapter 19, you’ll get this one automatically. It just makes the moment feel more epic!

Bravery
In chapter 20, tell Hitomi that she’s a lot braver than she gives herself credit for.

Nishi’s Promise
In chapter 20, choose Fumihiro to be the one following you outside the Academy.
